Ding Junhui Beaten in the Opening Round of the Sangsom 6 Red Championship

In the opening day of play last year’s winner, Ding Junhui was comprehensively beaten 5-1 by Thai national Noppon Saengkham in his opening match. Another Thai and former winner, Thepchaiya Un-nooh came back from a 2-0 deficit to inflict a 5-3 defeat of England’s Kyren Wilson. Kyren managed to entertain the crowd by potting the brown and cue-ball in to the same pocket after setting up the shot with ball-in-hand after Un-nooh had previously gone in-off. In the same group, Michael White continued his great run, on the back of the recent win in the Paul Hunter Classic with a 5-2 defeat of Ben Woollaston. Ricky Walden, who is suffering back problems struggled again, losing 5-1 to Icelandic national Kristjan Helgason.

I'm quite capable of winning here and the prize money is very attractive, but there is still some way to go and I have to face Tom Ford and Lyu Haotian before the knockout stages so there is no point in thinking far ahead.

Noppon Saengkham

Two times winner of this event, Mark Davis got off to a great start with 5-3 win over Liang Wenbo. Stephen Maguire, another winner of this event got off to a flyer with a 5-1 win over Akani Songermsawad. It was a clean sweep for all the Scots as fellow countrymen Anthony McGill prevailed 5-4 over Passakorn Sowannawat and Graeme Dott won 5-1 against David Gilbert.
